"Not by Faith Only"

There are many people who sincerely believe that man is saved by “faith alone” or “faith only”.  While this doctrine is very appealing and comforting it is not based on the word of God.  James wrote, “You see then that a man is justified by works, and not by faith only (James 2:23).  Faith apart from obedience is a dead faith and the kind of faith that demons possess..   Listen to James: “You believe that there is one God, You do well. Even the demons believe - and tremble! but do you want to know, O foolish man, that faith without works is dead?” (James 2:20-21).

Faith is essential to our salvation.  The Hebrew writer said, “but without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of those who diligently seek Him.”  The faith that pleases God is not a dead faith but an active and obedient faith.  The one who is blessed by God is the one who obeys.  Listen to Hebrew writer: “And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him” (Heb.5:9).    Don’t be deceived by those who teach salvation by “faith alone” but remember it is those whose faith is obedient that will receive eternal salvation.
