"Choose for Yourselves...Whom You Will Serve"

“And if it seems evil to you to serve the Lord, choose for yourselves this day whom you will serve, whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the River, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land you dwell. But as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord” (Joshua 24:15).

Consider briefly a few important lesson from this well known verse.

The decision to serve the Lord is an individual decision.  Joshua said, “Choose for YOURSELVES whom you will serve.”   On the day of Pentecost, Peter said, “save YOURSELVES from this crooked generation” (Acts 2:40).  No one can decide for you whether or not you are going to serve the Lord.  It is a decision that you must make.

Second,  it is an inescapable and immediate decision.  Joshua said, “choose for yourselves THIS DAY whom you will serve”.  The decision about serving the Lord is not a decision that can be postponed.  If you decide not to serve him then you have made a decision against the Lord.  Jesus said, “”Whoever is not with me is against me, and whoever does not gather with me scatters” (Luke 11:23).  You must make a decision about the Lord.  You cannot remain neutral.

What decision have you made concerning the Lord?  Have you decided to serve him? Remember, you must serve him on his terms and according to his way.
